Authorities and representatives from the Alcaldía de Candelaria and Comfenalco Valle explored the town’s tourist routes to strengthen the promotion of its heritage, culture, and unique flavors.
In a journey blending faith, nature, history, music, and gastronomy, members of the Alcaldía de Candelaria and representatives from Comfenalco Valle took part in a familiarization trip through the town’s tourist routes. The goal was to identify and showcase the main attractions of this municipio vallecaucano.
The journey began at the heart of Candelaria: el parque principal and the Iglesia de la Virgen de la Candelaria, the town’s spiritual and cultural center. Here, the February 2nd tradition was highlighted—when lit candles symbolize faith and miracles, deeply rooting the town in its religious identity.
The next stop was la casa de la señora Liliana Olave, a lively colonial gem adorned with plants, birds, antique objects, and artistic expressions that invite visitors to reflect on the past and the biodiversity of the present.
The tour continued to one of the town’s cultural strongholds: the Escuela de Música, part of a national project that recognizes musical talent in the regions. Candelaria proudly hosts two major events: the Festival Musical Pedro Ramírez, with a 31-year history, and the Festival Internacional de Música y Danzas Afrocandelareñas, now in its 24th edition.
The experience moved on to the Hotel Restaurante Campestre Provenza, built with guadua, where authentic flavors take center stage. Using ingredients grown on-site and free from additives, their postre de arracacha and other local dishes showcase the region’s culinary richness.
Later, the group explored the Reserva Natural y Humedal Villa Andrea, where cacao takes the spotlight, transformed into chocolate artesanal that sweetens homes in a natural and sustainable way.
On the way, a visit to the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Lourdes in Buchitolo provided a moment of introspection in a quiet, remote, and deeply spiritual setting.
The route concluded with a stop at the Villa Gorgona food corridor, where lechona is the star dish, and "Aquí es Olga" stands out as one of the most beloved spots for locals and tourists alike.
As a golden finale, the group arrived in Juanchito—an icon of salsa and Valle del Cauca’s nightlife—with plans underway to revitalize it as a cultural epicenter through future river navigation projects on the Río Cauca.
To wrap up the day under the Valle sun, nothing beats a refreshing Guanabanazo ,the perfect blend of flavor and fruity tradition.
This trip not only revealed the town’s hidden gems, but also inspired new ways to share its stories with the world. Candelaria pulses with strong roots and a present that proudly seeks to shine as a cultural and touristic destination.
