The World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) will celebrate a new edition of World Digital Solidarity Day on June 6

Under the theme “Mindful Connectivity: digital ethics and solidarity in contemporary tourism,” the event will feature both in-person and virtual activities across various Latin American countries.

The World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) has announced the celebration of a new edition of World Digital Solidarity Day, set to take place on the morning of June 6, in collaboration with the Dominican Association of Tourist Press (Adompretur), the Dominican Society of Digital Media (Sodomedi), the Candelaria (Colombia) City Hall, and the Tourism School at the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente.

The event, which will be held in a hybrid format — both in-person and online — will bring together journalists, academics, students, government officials, and tourism professionals to reflect on and share experiences regarding the ethical use of technology and the importance of solidarity in digital spaces, particularly in the context of contemporary tourism. The central theme for this edition will be: "Mindful Connectivity: digital ethics and solidarity in contemporary tourism."

Among the scheduled activities are presentations, discussion panels, and dialogue spaces where the current challenges of tourism communication, the role of social media, and the impact of technology in building more empathetic, inclusive, and sustainable destinations will be addressed.

Additionally, in the days leading up to the event, WTJO will launch a social media campaign to combat online hatred, promoting a culture of respect and digital coexistence under the hashtag #SigueConTuVida. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the effects of digital harassment, hate speech, and the urgent need to promote responsible digital citizenship.

The initiative reaffirms the commitment of the World Travel Journalism Organization to promote ethical, inclusive, and supportive communication at a time when the digital environment occupies a central role in the tourism experience and the daily lives of millions of people.
